Corrosion & Humidity Test
Purpose
- Identifying gross corrosion and adhesion issues of individual
parts used in the disk drive
- Accelerating the corrosion reactions which can occur during
the expected lifetime of the disk drive
- Insuring the compatibility and integrity of parts within the
disk drive during exposure to elevated temperature
and humidity.
Equipment
- Environmental chamber
- A source of deionized water with a measured resistivity greater
than 18 Megaohm-cm at 25 oC.
- Optical light microscope
Testing Procedure
- Position the samples within the chamber.
- Program the test profile of temperature and humidity for the
run on the environmental test chamber and start the
test run.
- After the run, open the chamber doors and remove the samples
Examination of Tested Samples
- The test samples should be examined as soon as possible following
removal from the environmental chamber.
- The inspection of these parts will be performed with the use
of an intense light and an optical light microscope.
- All observations are to be recorded.
- Any contamination, discoloration or other irregularities counld
be characterized by SEM / EDS, ion chromatography,
a surface analytical spectroscopy, or other analytical
probe.
