With increasing global scrutiny on Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), Singapore has introduced firm regulatory controls on their use in firefighting foams. 🧯
Under National Environment Agency’s directive, from 1 January 2026, the import and use of firefighting foams containing regulated PFAS
(PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS) will be phased out unless they meet strict trace-level thresholds aligned with international standards.
The allowable limits are defined as:
PFOA: ≤ 25 ppb
PFOS: ≤ 10,000 ppb
PFHxS: ≤ 100 ppb
Materials exceeding these limits must be removed and disposed of through NEA-licensed waste collectors, with mandatory regulatory oversight.
