Singapore Manufacturing Federation Industry Visit To Setsco

Happy smiles from SMF participants after a fruitful and enriching industrial visit to Setsco.

Setsco was proud to host more than 35 members from the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) for an industry visit to Setsco on 7 November 2013. The visit was to encourage involvement and strengthen the members understanding in the benefits of participating in industry-led standards committees and technical working groups.

Jessie Wu, Senior Manager from the Standards Division of Spring Singapore opened the session and emphasized on how establishing standards could boost business growth and improve quality and reliability of products. Citing actual case studies, members were enlightened on the strategic impact standards formulation could have on business and industries. Jessie also gave an insight on how these standards committee brought about multi-stakeholders engagement from government bodies to manufacturers, distributors and end users. This could benefit companies in improving inter-operability and gaining greater traction in market access and acceptance. In her closing she highlighted how companies could gain competitive advantage by gaining insider knowledge and early access to information through their involvement as well as exercise influence on standards development to meet industry needs.

Zaidee Bakee, Senior Manager of Setsco’s Corporate Planning Group warmly welcomed the guests and gave a brief background information on Setsco’s services and corporate structure. Dixon Ng, Manager from the Mechanical Technology Division shared examples of Setsco’s involvement in various standards committees and how Setsco with its current accreditations supported its business especially when venturing in overseas markets.

The visit ended with a short laboratory tour around Setsco where participants witnessed a sampled demonstration of products and materials testing to gain greater understanding on how product compliance helps to achieve product quality for the industry.
